The local office of the ICC, which met in Mumbai, selected Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengalooru or Bangalore, Nagpur, Mohali, and Ahmedabad as the eight venues to host as many as 29 games in the World Cup edition.  The other two hosts, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, have been granted 20 games for hosting.  Bangladesh has been allotted 8 games while Sri Lanka will host the balance 12 matches.

Fourteen cricket playing nations, split into two groups – Group A and Group B – will participate in the tournament.  Four teams from each group will then qualify for the quarter finals, according to the World Cup Schedule.

Group A :  Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Canada

Group B :  India, Bangladesh, South Africa, England, West Indies, Ireland and Netherlands

As per the allocation of venues in India,  Chennai, Bangalore, Nagpur, Kolkata and New Delhi will host 4 games each in the league stage, in which one game will involve the local team – Team India – participating in it.

Ahmedabad will host one of the four quarter-final matches and two matches in the league stage.

Mohali will host one of the two semi-final matches and two other matches in the league stage.

Mumbai will be the host for the Grand Finale, as well as two other other matches in the league stage.
